Three arrested in Englewood shooting

ENGLEWOOD, NJ — Three men have been arrested in connection with a shooting that left a 33-year-old man hospitalized, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced.

Joshua M. Khan, 19, of Englewood; Louis B. Placide, 20, of Cresskill; and Jalen S. Everett, 24, of Lodi, were arrested following an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Englewood Police Department.

On April 1, at approximately 11 a.m., the Englewood Police Department responded to reports of shots fired in the area of the Park View Housing Apartments.

Officers located a 33-year-old male with gunshot injuries.

The victim was transported by ambulance to HMH Hackensack University Medical Center and hospitalized in stable condition.

Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and initiated a joint investigation with the Englewood Police Department.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office also responded to assist.

The investigation revealed that Khan fired a .25 caliber handgun five times, striking the victim twice, before fleeing the scene.

Placide and Everett were both present at the shooting and were apprehended by police while fleeing the area.

A 9mm handgun was located in Placide’s possession at the time of his arrest, along with a round of hollow-nose ammunition, 14 ounces of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

Everett was found to be in possession of 40 ounces of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Investigators recovered a .25 caliber handgun believed to be the one used in the shooting.

With assistance from the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team, Khan was located and arrested in Elmwood Park on April 2.

Everett was arrested in Englewood on April 1 and charged with two counts of second-degree distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, third-degree distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, fourth-degree possession with intent to distribute drug paraphernalia, fourth-degree possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a disorderly persons offense.

Placide was charged with second-degree possession of a weapon during the commission of a controlled dangerous substance offense, second-degree possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, two counts of second-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public park, third-degree possession of a firearm within a public park, third-degree possession with intent to distribute marijuana, fourth-degree possession of hollow nose ammunition, fourth-degree possession with intent to distribute drug paraphernalia, fourth-degree possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a disorderly persons offense.

Khan was charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, second-degree possession of a weapon, and third-degree hindering apprehension.

All three defendants were remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending their first appearances in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
