FAIR HAVEN, VT — Police have arrested a man accused of stealing a charity donation jar from a convenience store.
Jeremy S. Mahoney, 45, of Benson, was arrested March 24 following an investigation into a reported larceny at Maplefield’s on Washington Street.
Police were called to the store at 2 a.m. March 21.
Employees told police a male customer took the Big Change Round Jar containing charitable money from the counter when he left the store.
Through investigation, police learned Mahoney allegedly took the jar of money and left the store.
Mahoney admitted to his involvement in the incident during an interview with police, according to the department.
He was arrested and released on a citation to appear in Rutland District Court at a future date.
Mahoney was charged with petit larceny.
