Woman arrested on retail theft charge in Wilkes-Barre Township

WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, PA — A woman was arrested on a felony retail theft charge Friday afternoon after allegedly stealing clothing from JCPenney at the Wyoming Valley Mall.

Police identified the suspect as Johnnie Sue Johnson-Coats, 43, of Wilkes-Barre Township.

According to police, Johnson-Coats stole clothing from the store and fled from loss prevention in a red GMC Sierra pickup at approximately 4:07 p.m.

This marks Johnson-Coats’ sixth retail theft offense, elevating the charge to a felony.

Officers located Johnson-Coats in the vehicle at the Sam’s Club gas pumps and took her into custody.

She is charged with one count of retail theft.
