TOWAMENSING TOWNSHIP, PA — Firefighters spent approximately three hours battling a tree fire on Forest Street on Thursday evening.
Members of the Towamensing Township Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched at approximately 6:45 p.m. for reports of a tree on wires.
Engine 917, Brush 949 and Fire Police Trailer 980 responded to the scene within five minutes.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a tree down and hanging on active wires that had caught fire.
Firefighters waited to begin fire suppression until receiving clearance from PPL.
During the operation, members monitored conditions to ensure no secondary fires started below from falling ash and debris.
The fire was safely extinguished.
