Police investigate reported threat in Thetford

THETFORD, VT — Police have determined there was no credible threat to Thetford Academy after investigating a report of a potential school shooting.

The Thetford Police Department received a report on the evening of March 30 regarding a potential threat of a school shooting at Thetford Academy for the following day.

Officers immediately began working with Thetford Academy administration to assess the credibility of the information and identify its source.

Initial conversations with students quickly indicated that the situation was not as originally perceived, according to a statement released by Police Chief Michael Scruggs.

Thetford Police and Thetford Academy conducted additional follow-up interviews and review over the days that followed to ensure a full understanding of the events.

After completing the investigation, the Thetford Police Department and Thetford Academy determined that there is no substantiated threat.

During the course of the rumor’s spread, an individual’s name became associated with the concern despite not being involved, according to the statement.
