PALMYRA, NY — An 18-year-old man was arrested after allegedly posting a threatening message about a local high school on social media.
Douglas Adams, of Murray, was arrested April 1 and charged with making a terroristic threat, a class D felony, and aggravated threat of mass harm, a class A misdemeanor.
The Orleans County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the New York State Intelligence Center at approximately 8 p.m. March 31 regarding a reported threat made toward Palmyra-Macedon High School on social media.
Authorities determined that Adams had posted a photograph of the school with a caption suggesting a potential act of violence.
The sheriff’s office coordinated with the Palmyra Police Department, the New York State Intelligence Center and the National Threat Operations Center.
Orleans County deputies responded to a residence on Jay Drive in the Town of Murray.
The investigation determined that there is no known credible or ongoing threat to the public or to Palmyra-Macedon High School.
The Orleans County Sheriff’s Office turned over evidence to the Palmyra Police Department, which led to Adams’ arrest by Palmyra police.
