Man arrested on DWI charge in West Sparta

WEST SPARTA, NY — A West Sparta man faces felony charges after allegedly driving erratically and crashing into a sign.

Matthew Partridge, 37, of West Sparta, was arrested April 2 following an incident on Everman Road.

Sheriff’s Deputy Walker Major responded to the area at approximately 4:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner.

The vehicle had struck a sign and was disabled, with the operator still in the area, according to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.

Major made contact with Partridge and suspected he was under the influence of alcohol.

Partridge was uncooperative and refused to cooperate with the DWI investigation, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

He was taken into custody for Driving While Intoxicated.

Partridge refused to submit to a chemical breath test.

A New York State Department of Motor Vehicles check showed Partridge was operating the vehicle with a revoked driver’s license due to a previous refusal to submit to a chemical test.

Partridge was charged with felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the First Degree, Driving While Intoxicated and violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.

He was arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part before Town of Mt. Morris Justice Ossont.

Partridge was released on his own recognizance as the charges do not qualify for bail under the state Bail Reform Act.

The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented Partridge at the arraignment.
