Woman arrested on assault charge in Southport

SOUTHPORT, NY — A homeless woman was arrested after allegedly assaulting her elderly mother during a disturbance April 1.

Carissa A. Balmer, 50, was charged with assault in the second degree, a class D felony.

Deputies from the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address on South Broadway at approximately 11:41 a.m. for a reported disturbance.

Deputies determined that Balmer had physically assaulted her 77-year-old mother by shoving her to the ground, causing severe pain to the victim’s hip.

The victim was transported by Erway Ambulance to Arnot Ogden Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.

Balmer was arraigned in Southport Town Court, where an order of protection was issued.

She was remanded to the Chemung County Jail without bail.
