SPRINGFIELD, MA — Springfield police seized three illegal firearms, including two ghost guns, while responding to a trespassing call Friday morning on Columbia Terrace.
Officers responded to a home in the 0-100 block of Columbia Terrace at approximately 10:55 a.m. for a report of trespassing.
A suspect allegedly broke into an unoccupied home through a second-floor window.
Officers arrived at the apartment and detained six subjects inside pending an investigation.
During a search of a suspect, later identified as Jose Maldonado, officers recovered a loaded firearm.
During a search of a 17-year-old male, officers seized a loaded ghost gun.
Officers then located and recovered a third illegal firearm inside the apartment — a ghost gun with an extended magazine capable of holding 31 rounds of ammunition and loaded with 20 rounds.
Officers arrested Maldonado, Jaiden Acosta, Jainice Dias, a 17-year-old male, a 16-year-old female and a 15-year-old female at approximately 11:20 a.m.
Jaiden Acosta, 18, of Springfield is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded large capacity firearm without a license, improper storage of a large capacity firearm near a minor, breaking and entering daytime for a felony and convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
Jose Maldonado, 18, of Springfield is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded large capacity firearm without a license and breaking and entering daytime for a felony.
Jainice Dias, 18, of Springfield is charged with breaking and entering daytime for a felony.
The names, booking photos and specific charges of the three juveniles arrested will not be released due to their ages.
