NIANTIC, CT — Three men were arrested March 31, 2026, in connection with a sophisticated bank fraud operation targeting Charter Oak Credit Union customers.

East Lyme police responded to the Charter Oak Credit Union on Main Street to investigate a report of a man attempting to open a fraudulent bank account while two accomplices waited in a vehicle parked nearby.

All three men were arrested before the account could be opened.

Police said the men are part of a larger criminal enterprise using counterfeit documents to open accounts at various branches of Charter Oak Federal Credit Union.

The suspects obtained names and telephone numbers of bank customers, then posed as corporate security officers to convince targeted members to divulge personal bank account information, according to police.

The suspects used the information to transfer money into newly established accounts.

Corporate security officers assisted East Lyme police with the investigation.

Trayvon Robinson, 34, of Waterbury, was arrested at the scene.

Jalan Hayle, 26, of Waterbury, was also arrested.

Terique Clarke, 26, of New Rochelle, New York, was arrested as well.

All three were charged with forgery-related crimes.
