Man charged in fatal Thruway crash in Clarkstown

CLARKSTOWN, NY — New York State Police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal crash on the New York State Thruway last August.

William Peralta, 25, of Elmsford, was arrested March 11 by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Haverstraw.

The arrest stems from the Aug. 11, 2025, death of Steven Redner.

Investigation determined that Peralta was speeding and intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.12 percent when his 2014 Ford struck Redner’s vehicle on the New York State Thruway in Clarkstown, Rockland County.

Peralta was arrested and processed at State Police Tarrytown, where he was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, a class D felony; second-degree manslaughter, recklessly causing death, a class C felony; driving while intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor; and multiple uniform traffic tickets.

Peralta was arraigned in Clarkstown Town Court and released on his own recognizance.

He is due back in Clarkstown Town Court on May 21 at 9:30 a.m.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:39 a.m. on Aug. 11, 2025, on Interstate 87 northbound in Clarkstown.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2009 Nissan was disabled, partially in the lane of travel and on the right shoulder of Interstate 87 for unknown reasons, with all lights off.

The 2014 Ford was traveling northbound on Interstate 87 in the same lane when it rear-ended the Nissan, causing both vehicles to spin out across all lanes of travel and strike the median on the left shoulder.

The operator of the Nissan, identified as Steven Redner, 47, of Tallman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The operator of the Ford received life-saving measures from EMS at the scene before being transported to Westchester Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
