Man arrested in stabbing at DeWitt hotel

DEWITT, NY — A Syracuse man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing at a DeWitt hotel that left a victim with multiple stab wounds to the abdomen.

DeWitt police officers were dispatched to the Red Roof Inn at 6614 Thompson Road at about 6:08 a.m. on March 30, 2026, for a reported stabbing.

Officers found a male victim in the hotel lobby suffering from stab wounds to his abdomen and in and out of consciousness.

Officers provided immediate trauma care until emergency medical services arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital.

The victim is in stable condition and is expected to survive.

Police determined the stabbing occurred inside a hotel room.

The victim and suspect had prior familiarity with each other, according to police.

The suspect arrived at the hotel and unlawfully entered the hotel room before beginning a physical altercation with the victim, police said.

During the fight, the suspect stabbed the victim multiple times in the abdomen with a pocketknife and then fled the scene, according to police.

Police identified the suspect as Azariah Anderson, 26, of Syracuse.

On March 31, 2026, DeWitt investigators located Anderson inside an apartment on North Salina Street in Syracuse.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Anderson was charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Anderson was arraigned and is incarcerated at the Onondaga County Justice Center in lieu of $20,000 bail or $40,000 bond.
