TISBURY, MA — An Oak Bluffs Police Department patrol officer attempted to initiate a motor vehicle stop with a 2016 Ford Focus for an inspection sticker violation on Edgartown Vineyard Haven Road near the Tisbury town line at approximately 2:48 a.m. Sunday.
The Ford Focus initially failed to stop for the officer and traveled approximately .6 miles, reaching speeds of approximately 70 mph, before stopping in the area of Canterbury Lane in Tisbury.
A Tisbury police officer responded to the motor vehicle stop to assist.
The operator of the Ford Focus was identified as Weverton Silva Santos, 40, of Tisbury.
The officer confirmed that Santos’ Massachusetts driver’s license was suspended, and that he also had an arrest warrant out of the Falmouth District Court.
The officer also subsequently located three individually wrapped plastic bags in the vehicle which contained a white powdery substance that is consistent with cocaine.
Santos was placed under arrest and charged with an active arrest warrant, operating after license suspension, possession of a Class B substance (cocaine), failure to stop for police, speeding and no inspection sticker.
