MANCHESTER, NH — Police are praising an 11-year-old girl for her quick thinking after a suspicious encounter on Cedar Street.

Manchester Police received a report at approximately 4:40 p.m. April 1, 2026, of a suspicious man in a vehicle approaching the child.

The child ran from the man to create distance.

Once she was at a safe distance, she took a picture of his vehicle, including the license plate.

She also provided police with a detailed description of the individual involved.

Police located and spoke with the individual.

The incident does not appear to be criminal in nature, according to police.

Police are using the incident as a reminder for families to talk with children about how to respond if approached by someone they do not know.

Running to safety, avoiding interaction and seeking help right away are key steps that can make a difference, police said.
