Pedestrian killed in crash in Ossipee

OSSIPEE, NH — A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle on U.S. Route 25E on Tuesday night.

The crash occurred just before 8:30 p.m. March 31.

A Jeep Cherokee driven by Carol Mathes, 79, of Tamworth, was traveling westbound on U.S. Route 25E when the vehicle struck a man walking in the road, according to New Hampshire State Police.

First responders arrived and determined the pedestrian was deceased.

The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

Mathes is cooperating with the investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time.

The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and assumed lead of the investigation due to the severity of the crash.

Members of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Ossipee Police Department, Freedom Police Department and the Ossipee Fire Department provided assistance.
