Man arrested on weapon charge in Big Flats

BIG FLATS, NY — A 57-year-old man was arrested on a felony weapon charge after sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant at his residence.

Carlos A. Perez, of Breesport, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony.

On March 31, Perez was arrested by the Elmira Police Department on an unrelated matter.

During that arrest, the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office received information that Perez may be in possession of an unregistered handgun at his residence in the town of Big Flats.

The sheriff’s office criminal investigations division obtained a search warrant for the dwelling.

Members of the road patrol division and criminal investigations division executed the search warrant.

An unregistered firearm was located during the search.

Perez is being held at the Chemung County Jail and will appear in court at a later date.
