DURHAM, NH — Police are warning babysitters and nannies about a gift card scam circulating on social media.
The Durham Police Department said a victim recently posted a babysitting advertisement on social media and was contacted by someone claiming to be a potential client.
The individual provided a local address and asked the victim to stop at a nearby business to purchase several gift cards, according to police.
The victim was then instructed to send photos of the back of the cards.
Police said this is a scam.
Authorities are urging caution if anyone asks you to purchase gift cards on their behalf.
Red flags include requests for payment via gift cards such as Apple, Google Play or Amazon cards, pressure to act quickly or keep the request secret, and messages claiming to be from someone you know but seem unusual.
