Driver cited after hitting dog in Putney

PUTNEY, VT — A New Hampshire woman was cited after hitting a dog and leaving the scene on March 31.

Vermont State Police at the Westminster Barracks were notified at approximately 8:19 a.m. of a single-vehicle crash involving a dog on Westminster Road near McKinnon Road.

An investigation revealed that Marcy Smith, 68, of Alstead, New Hampshire, struck a dog in the road and left the scene.

Smith later reported to the Westminster Barracks, where she was processed and issued a citation.

She is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Windham Criminal Division, on May 12, 2025 at 8:30 a.m. to answer to a charge of leaving the scene of an accident.

Smith was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and her 2015 Toyota Rav 4 sustained minor damage.

Roads were wet and it was raining at the time of the incident.
