Driver arrested on DUI charge in Waitsfield

WAITSFIELD, VT — A Bristol man faces drunken driving charges after crashing into two vehicles and a pottery shop on Main Street.

Joseph Hagan, 47, of Bristol, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and negligent operation following the three-vehicle crash on March 31, 2026.

Troopers from the Berlin Barracks responded to the crash near the intersection of Main Street and Bridge Street at approximately 4:52 p.m.

Investigators determined Hagan was driving a 2019 Subaru Legacy south on Route 100 when he struck two other southbound vehicles.

After the initial collisions, Hagan’s vehicle left the roadway and crashed into Waitsfield Pottery, coming to rest inside the first floor of the building and causing structural damage.

The other vehicles involved were a 2020 Toyota Corolla operated by Julian Fairchild, 20, of Warren, and a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado operated by Eric Baruzzi, 50, of Fayston.

Troopers detected signs of impairment while speaking with Hagan at the scene.

Hagan sustained minor injuries and was transported to Central Vermont Medical Center for medical evaluation.

Troopers screened Hagan for DUI at the hospital.

Hagan’s vehicle was totaled in the crash, while the other two vehicles sustained minor rear damage.

No serious injuries were reported.

Hagan was issued a citation to appear in Washington County Superior Court on April 9, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.

The Waitsfield Fire Department and Mad River Valley Ambulance assisted at the scene.
