UTICA, NY — A medical provider was arrested and charged with forcible touching following an investigation into an inappropriate encounter at his office.

Viktor Petrovets, 57, of Utica, was taken into custody March 30 at his office on Trenton Avenue.

The investigation began March 16 when a patient came to the Utica Police Department to report an incident at a medical provider’s office.

The victim stated that while at the office for an unrelated issue, the medical provider performed an invasive physical examination that felt completely unnecessary.

The victim said they felt so uncomfortable during the exam that they ended the appointment and immediately left the office.

After leaving, the victim began receiving numerous text messages directly from the medical provider.

The communication and its contents caused the victim to further question the medical necessity of the invasive physical examination.

The case was assigned to an investigator with the Criminal Investigations Division.

Investigators conducted an extensive review of the communications and medical procedure and determined the acts rose to a criminal offense.

Petrovets was transported to the Utica Police Department, where he was charged and booked.

The Utica Police Department is continuing the investigation and asking anyone with additional information about this incident or other incidents to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 315-223-3510.
