WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, PA — Police arrested a Wilkes-Barre man Saturday after receiving a report of vandalism along Mundy Street.

Jibril Hanif Khairi, 19, of Wilkes-Barre, was taken into custody at 12:16 p.m. March 29 near the entrance to Home Depot.

Officers responded to a report of a man vandalizing signs with a marker along Mundy Street.

Police located Khairi within minutes of the initial report.

Khairi initially ignored commands to stop until an additional officer arrived to assist, police said.

During the encounter, Khairi refused to identify himself and resisted officers’ attempts to take him into custody after they observed paint on his hand, according to police.

Following his arrest, Khairi used racial slurs at police and threatened them with violence, police said.

Police recovered multiple markers consistent with the reported vandalism, along with additional contraband.

An initial canvass of the area revealed multiple instances of graffiti on traffic signs, benches, retail displays, utility boxes and a nearby business property, all consistent with the markers recovered.

In total, police located 40 individual tags.

Khairi was arraigned by the duty magistrate and given $15,000 straight bail.

He was charged with vandalism and resisting arrest.
