ELMIRA, NY — A Breesport man was arrested late Sunday after allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment, assaulting her and threatening her with a gun in front of her young son.
Carlos Perez, 57, of Breesport, was charged with first-degree burglary, a class B felony.
Elmira police were dispatched to an address on West Chemung Place at approximately 11:59 p.m. March 30 for a report of a burglary.
The female caller reported that her ex-boyfriend had entered her apartment, physically assaulted her and held a gun to her head while threatening to kill her, according to Sgt. Theron Brown.
The incident occurred in the presence of the woman’s 7-year-old son.
The victim reported that the man left in a gold Cadillac SUV traveling in an unknown direction.
Officers from the Elmira Police Department and Chemung County Sheriff’s Office searched the area for the vehicle and suspect.
Within minutes, officers located the suspect driving the gold-colored Cadillac and took him into custody without further incident.
A search warrant was executed on the vehicle, resulting in officers recovering a loaded .25-caliber semi-automatic handgun and several boxes of ammunition in various calibers.
Perez was being held at the Elmira Police Department awaiting arraignment.
