NEW BERLIN, NY — A 47-year-old man was arrested following a two-car crash on State Highway 23 on March 27, 2026.
Jason A. Nichols, of New Berlin, was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operator in the first degree, according to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the highway for a reported motor vehicle accident.
The operator of the vehicle that caused the crash was identified as Nichols, who had a revoked New York state driver’s license, deputies said.
After further investigation, deputies determined Nichols was operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
Nichols was arrested and transported to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, where he was processed.
He was also charged with failure to keep right, moved from lane unsafely and drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle.
Nichols was released to a sober third party and is scheduled to appear in New Berlin Town Court at a later date.
