NEW HARTFORD, NY — Six individuals were involved in an altercation at a Walmart on Commercial Drive on March 29, 2026.
New Hartford Police responded to the store at approximately 4:45 p.m. for a reported dispute that started in the Subway Restaurant area inside the Walmart store.
The dispute escalated into a physical altercation involving approximately six individuals.
New Hartford Police officers took one individual into custody after it was determined that a female victim had sustained minor facial injuries during the incident.
The injured individual was struck with a metal chair during the incident but was not stabbed as initial reports indicated.
The female victim was evaluated by EMS on scene and declined further medical treatment.
Preliminary investigation indicates the incident began as a verbal altercation inside, which escalated into a physical fight involving several individuals.
Video surveillance and witness statements show one participant initiated physical contact, and during the altercation, a chair was used as a weapon.
The group later moved outside, where the fight resumed before dispersing.
Initial reports of a knife or a gun being displayed were not able to be confirmed.
New Hartford Police have arrested Kyle Quinn, 23, of Utica.
Quinn has been charged with one count of harassment in the second degree, a violation, and one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor, for using the chair to strike the victim.
