WEST HAVERSTRAW, NY — A 20-year-old man was arrested on weapons charges following a traffic stop on Route 9W on March 27, 2026.
Members of the Haverstraw Police Department conducted the traffic stop at approximately 9:37 p.m.
An investigation determined that one of the vehicle’s occupants was illegally in possession of a loaded firearm.
The individual was identified as Kamani A. Atterbury, of Spring Valley.
Atterbury was taken into custody and transported to the Haverstraw Police Department for processing.
He has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (loaded firearm), Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (large capacity ammo feeding device), and Criminal Possession of a Firearm.
Atterbury was arraigned in the Village of West Haverstraw Justice Court where he was released on his own recognizance.
The Haverstraw Police Department was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office.
