Man arrested on firearms, drug charges in Meriden

MERIDEN, CT — A man wanted on felony gun charges in Massachusetts was arrested after police found stolen firearms and narcotics during searches of his home and vehicle.

Javier Nieves, 30, of Meriden, was taken into custody March 26 following a joint investigation by the Meriden Police Department and Springfield Massachusetts Police Department.

Police obtained search warrants for Nieves’ home on Stoddard Drive and his vehicle after developing information that he was in possession of illegal firearms.

Nieves was detained away from his home before the search warrant for his vehicle was executed.

Officers found a large quantity of narcotics inside the vehicle, and Nieves was taken into custody without incident.

The Meriden Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team assisted in executing the search warrant at Nieves’ home.

Inside the residence, police found two handguns stolen from North Carolina, an unregistered AR-style rifle, two high-capacity magazines, a 30-round magazine for one of the handguns and a 45-round magazine for the rifle.

Items seized from Nieves’ vehicle included 30.79 grams of suspected powder cocaine, 10 blue pills suspected to be pressed fentanyl, 128.5 grams of suspected marijuana, three scales and multiple used and new plastic bags used for packing illegal narcotics.

Nieves’ Connecticut pistol permit had been revoked following an incident in 2024.

He was charged with two counts of theft of a firearm, illegal possession of an assault weapon, two counts of illegal possession of a large capacity magazine, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, two counts of possession of narcotics and operating a drug factory.

Nieves is being held on $750,000 bond.
