Man arrested on drug charges in Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A 49-year-old man was arrested March 25 at College Hill Park following an investigation into crack cocaine sales on the city’s north side.

Jermaine Thomas, of Poughkeepsie, was taken into custody without incident by Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force agents.

At the time of his arrest, Thomas had multiple bags of crack cocaine packaged for sale, drug packaging materials, scales and U.S. currency, according to the sheriff’s office.

The investigation began after the Drug Task Force identified an alleged drug dealer operating on the north side of the city.

Drug Task Force agents made multiple purchases of crack cocaine from Thomas at various locations on the city’s north side, authorities said.

Following the arrest, Drug Task Force agents executed a search warrant at Thomas’ residence on Winnikee Avenue with assistance from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and City of Poughkeepsie Police Department.

Additional evidence related to the sale of narcotics was recovered during the search.

Thomas was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, a class C felony.

Several additional charges are pending against Thomas related to the investigation.

Thomas was arraigned in City of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center.
