Man arrested on aggravated assault charge in Willow Street

WILLOW STREET, PA — A 59-year-old man was arrested after police say he became combative with EMS personnel and grabbed a syringe while being transported in an ambulance.

Robert J. Brocato, of Kirkwood, was arrested at 6:41 p.m. March 24 in the area of Willow Street Pike and Locust Lane.

West Lampeter Township Police were dispatched to the location after EMS personnel on an ambulance activated an emergency alert for a combative patient who was attacking them.

Upon arrival, officers found an intoxicated Brocato in the back of the ambulance being restrained by EMS personnel as he held a syringe filled with medication, police said.

Officers disarmed Brocato and removed the syringe from his grasp.

EMS personnel reported that Brocato became combative during transport and grabbed the syringe from one of the EMS workers.

EMS personnel restrained Brocato and called for police assistance.

Brocato was charged with aggravated assault before Magisterial District Judge Benner.

After being released from the hospital, he was taken to Lancaster County Prison to be held for arraignment.

He was arraigned March 25 and bail was set at $40,000.

Brocato posted bail and was released from Lancaster County Prison.
