EAST LANSDOWNE, PA — A 37-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a traffic stop on Baltimore Avenue late Wednesday night.

East Lansdowne Police Officer Stephen Mengini was monitoring traffic in the 1000 block of Baltimore Avenue at approximately 10:53 p.m. when he observed a gray Nissan Murano accelerating at a high rate of speed westbound on Baltimore Avenue.

Officer Mengini attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the 500 block of Baltimore Avenue, but the vehicle suddenly accelerated north on Lexington Avenue, driving over a fixed orange traffic control device before coming to a sudden stop in the unit block of Lexington Avenue.

Upon approaching the vehicle, Officer Mengini observed the driver, Tionna Dessus, of Pennsylvania, exhibited a strong odor of alcohol.

Dessus initially stated she was on her way home, but later changed her statement to admit she was going to B’s Que-Shot Lounge bar, which was across the street from where she stopped her vehicle.

Dessus was administered standardized field sobriety tests, which she failed.

Dessus was taken into custody and charged with DUI general impairment, reckless driving and driving without headlights.

She is scheduled to appear before District Magistrate 32-2-51 on a 20-day summons.
