TROY, NY — A Troy man was arrested Thursday afternoon after police found him with a loaded, illegal handgun equipped with a device designed to allow fully-automatic firing.
Troy Police Department Special Operations Section Detectives and Patrol Officers made the arrest following a traffic stop near Corliss Park Apartments.
Shortly after 1:30 p.m. March 26, detectives conducting a weapons investigation in the area observed a male suspect who appeared to possess a handgun.
The suspect entered a vehicle with another individual.
Detectives coordinated with patrol officers to conduct a traffic stop.
The suspect was detained and search warrants were executed on the vehicle and a nearby apartment.
Police recovered the loaded, illegal handgun, which contained an extended magazine loaded with 30 rounds and was equipped with a conversion device designed to allow fully-automatic firing.
The defendant was taken into custody without incident.
He was transported to Troy Police Department Central Station for processing.
The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned in Troy City Court on March 27.
The Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office will handle prosecution of the case.
