ESSEX FELLS, NJ — A Newark man was arrested on multiple charges after a traffic stop revealed fraudulent documents and suspected narcotics.
On March 21, 2026, at approximately 10:35 a.m., Officer Rigas observed a vehicle traveling northbound on Roseland Avenue with a Georgia temporary registration affixed to the rear of the vehicle.
The vehicle continued down Borough Place, failed to stop at the stop sign and failed to signal.
Officer Rigas conducted a motor vehicle stop and identified the driver as a 21-year-old male from Newark.
Through further investigation, it was learned that the driver had an active criminal warrant out of Newark for aggravated assault.
The temporary registration was also found to be fraudulent as well as the insurance card provided to Officer Rigas.
Sergeant Leaf arrived on scene and Officer Rigas placed the male party under arrest and secured him in the rear of his patrol vehicle.
While conducting an inventory consent search of the vehicle, the driver was found to be in possession of suspected heroin.
The vehicle was towed and the driver was transported back to police headquarters.
He was issued several motor vehicle summonses and charged with the following offenses: possession of CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia, exhibiting a fraudulent insurance card, displaying a forged registration, obstruction, hindering and littering.
He was remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility pending a future court date.
