BIG FLATS, NY — A man faces multiple felony drug charges after a deputy found him in a suspicious vehicle behind a closed business early Wednesday morning.
Drew M. Shaffer, 29, of Elmira, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree with intent to sell, a class B felony, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree with intent to sell, a class D felony, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor.
A Chemung County Sheriff’s Office deputy on road patrol observed a suspicious vehicle behind the Sportsman’s Warehouse at about 1:51 a.m. March 24, 2026.
The deputy identified Shaffer as the operator and began an investigation to determine what he was doing behind the closed business.
During the investigation, deputies found Shaffer to be in possession of a large quantity of narcotics, methamphetamine and other paraphernalia, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators with the Criminal Investigation Division assisted in the remainder of the investigation.
Shaffer was arraigned in Big Flats Town Court and released on his own recognizance.
He is scheduled to appear in Big Flats Town Court at a later date.
