DORCHESTER, MA — An off-duty police officer spotted a suspect attempting to break into vehicles early Friday morning, leading to an arrest after the man allegedly entered a nearby home.
Officers assigned to District C-11 responded to the area of Saint Brendan Road and Hilltop Street at approximately 3:58 a.m. following a report of an individual pulling on car door handles.
The off-duty officer observed the suspect attempting to open the door handles of three vehicles but was unsuccessful in gaining entry.
The officer provided a description of the suspect and reported that he had approached the front porch on Rockne Avenue.
The suspect unlawfully entered a residence, where he was confronted by a homeowner.
The resident ordered the suspect to leave, and officers encountered him as he exited the home.
Michael Potter, 22, of Quincy, was placed under arrest.
Potter is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of breaking and entering, enter a dwelling at nighttime for felony, and attempted burglary.
