WOLCOTT, NY — State Police arrested a Red Creek man following a domestic dispute investigation in the Town of Wolcott, Wayne County.
Joseph D. Cottrell Jr., 38, of Red Creek, was taken into custody March 24, 2026, after troopers responded to a residence on Main Street in Red Creek at approximately 5:28 p.m.
Wayne County 911 dispatched State Police to the location for a report of a domestic disturbance involving a male subject who allegedly struck a child.
An investigation determined that Cottrell was involved in a physical altercation with a juvenile family member inside the residence.
During the incident, Cottrell allegedly applied pressure to the juvenile’s neck, obstructing normal breathing and causing visible injuries.
The incident was witnessed by multiple children present in the home.
Cottrell was taken into custody at the scene without incident and transported to State Police Wolcott for processing.
Cottrell was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, a misdemeanor; five counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor; and two counts of harassment in the second degree, a violation.
Cottrell was transported to the Wayne County Jail for centralized arraignment.
