Cooperstown woman arrested on fraud charges in Delaware County

DAVENPORT, NY — A Cooperstown woman faces felony charges after allegedly writing bad checks totaling more than $14,000 at two bank branches in Delaware County.

Jennifer Hewitt, 38, of Cooperstown, was arrested following an investigation into fraud complaints in the towns of Stamford and Davenport, Delaware County Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced Saturday.

Delaware County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to The Delaware National Bank of Delhi on Tuesday, March 3, to investigate a fraud complaint.

Deputies learned that Hewitt had written two separate checks to “Cash” at two different Delaware National Bank of Delhi branch locations totaling more than $14,000.

Investigators later determined that Hewitt did not have the funds available to cover the checks.

Hewitt was arrested by Delaware County Sheriff’s deputies with assistance from the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office.

She was charged with two counts of grand larceny in the third degree, class D felonies, and two counts of issuing a bad check, class B misdemeanors.

Following arrest processing, Hewitt was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await centralized arraignment court.
