MONTEREY, MA — A 60-year-old Monterey man was taken into custody Thursday evening following a suspicious fire at his home early that morning, according to Massachusetts State Police.
John Rohane was located at 7 p.m., ending a daylong search that involved State Police, Monterey Police and other agencies.
The Monterey Fire Department responded to 340 Main Road at about 3:50 a.m. for a report of a fire.
No injuries were reported.
Based on an examination of the scene, witness interviews and other evidence, State Police fire investigators assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office determined that the fire had been intentionally set.
State Police and regional partners searched for Rohane throughout the day, bringing additional assets to the wooded area behind 340 Main Road, including areas of Beartown State Forest.
Authorities had urged the public not to approach Rohane and to call 9-1-1 if they saw him.
