ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Police arrested a man following a robbery and assault at a smoke shop on March 24.
Abington Township Police officers were dispatched to the Abington Smoke Shop at 1342 Easton Road in the Roslyn section at approximately 4:39 p.m. for a report of a possible shooting inside the business.
Officers found a store employee suffering from a head injury and observed a shattered glass display case.
The victim reported that a male suspect with his face covered entered the store, assaulted him, broke the display case and removed merchandise before fleeing.
The victim was transported to Jefferson Abington Hospital for evaluation.
Police determined the victim had been struck in the head with a river rock, not shot.
Officers broadcast a description of the suspect and located an individual matching that description in the area of Easton Road and Cross Road in the Glenside section.
Zafir Taj Hill, 22, of Labelle, Pennsylvania, was found in possession of merchandise taken from the smoke shop and was taken into custody without incident.
Hill has been charged with robbery, aggravated assault and related offenses.
He was transported to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility, where he was arraigned by Judge Scott Palladino and his bail was set at $50,077.
