UTICA, NY — A 35-year-old man was arrested March 23 after leading police on a vehicle pursuit that ended with a foot chase through psychiatric center grounds.

David Drake of Utica was taken into custody after members of the Criminal Investigations Division spotted him at approximately 5:45 p.m. while conducting surveillance related to Oneida County Grand Jury indictment warrants.

Drake exited a location, entered a vehicle and refused to stop when patrol units attempted a traffic stop, according to police.

The pursuit ended when the vehicles reached a dead end street.

Drake then fled on foot through the Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center grounds before a patrol officer apprehended him.

He was charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and 26 traffic violations.

The indictment warrants stemmed from a Jan. 18 incident on the 700 block of Jay Street in which Drake allegedly assaulted, robbed and shot at a victim.

The Grand Jury returned an indictment for robbery in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

Drake was booked at the Utica Police Department before being transferred to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office for processing on the indictment charges.
