JAMESTOWN, NY — Two people face animal cruelty charges after police executed a search warrant at a residence and found animals living in unsanitary conditions.
Kristen A. McCauley, 42, of Jamestown, and Darian A. McCauley, 18, of Jamestown, were arrested Sunday following an investigation at a Peach Street residence.
Police said they had been conducting an animal neglect investigation but were unsuccessful in making contact with the tenants to check on the animals.
Officers executed a search warrant at the address and found four adult dogs, one puppy and two cats living inside the residence.
One adult dog required immediate veterinary care, and a deceased puppy was also located on the property, according to police.
Police said the apartment was filled with accumulated feces, urine, bugs and refuse.
Officers determined the two residents were unable to provide sanitary living conditions and proper sustenance for the animals.
Both were charged with eight counts of overdriving, torturing and injuring animals; failure to provide proper sustenance; and four counts of unlicensed/unvaccinated dogs.
They were transported to City Jail and later released with appearance tickets due to New York State Bail Reform.
The animals were removed from their custody pending future court proceedings.
The Jamestown Police Department and Dog Control Officer were assisted by the Chautauqua County Humane Society and the City Department of Development during the investigation.
