Man arrested on trespassing, drug charges in Dunbarton

DUNBARTON, NH — A Penacook man was arrested Saturday night after an officer found him allegedly attempting to break into a members-only firearms range.

Ernest Thompson, 42, of Penacook, was taken into custody at approximately 8:30 p.m. on March 21, 2026, near Pioneer Sports.

An officer was patrolling the area in response to several recent reports of criminal trespassing and theft when he observed a vehicle matching one previously captured on surveillance footage.

The officer also saw an individual appearing to actively attempt to circumvent a locked gate on the property.

Thompson was taken into custody without incident.

He was found to be in possession of a quantity of suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl, according to police.

Thompson was charged with two counts of criminal trespassing, two counts of possession of a controlled/narcotic drug, possession of drugs in a motor vehicle and loitering/prowling.

He was given an arraignment date of Monday, May 4, 2026, in the 6th Circuit – District Division – Concord.

The Dunbarton Police Department was assisted by members of the Weare Police Department.

Police said an additional suspect has been identified and more charges are expected.
