Man arrested on drug charges in Sylvan Beach

SYLVAN BEACH, NY — A Rome man was arrested following a traffic stop early Sunday morning in the village.

Road Patrol Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Pioneer Avenue at around 2 a.m. on March 21, 2026, according to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol.

During the traffic stop, deputies located a quantity of methamphetamine possessed by the operator of the vehicle, Joshua Gillett, 26, of Rome.

With the assistance of Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Investigators, Gillett was charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, a class C felony.

He was also charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor.

Additional charges include aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree, an unclassified misdemeanor, and several traffic violations.

Gillett was processed at the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building and was held at the Oneida County Jail pending arraignment in CAP Court.
