WEBSTER, NY — Police responded to a domestic dispute and mental health crisis on Glen Edith Drive around 6:30 a.m. where a man possibly fired a gun.
A marked patrol vehicle was involved in an accident at Gravel and Ridge roads while responding to the incident.
West Webster Fire Department and Penfield Ambulance responded and checked the driver of the vehicle and the officer involved in the accident.
Neither were transported by ambulance for treatment, though the officer was later taken to a hospital for precautionary evaluation.
Other officers responded to the original incident on Glen Edith Drive.
As officers approached, the man fled in a vehicle and struck a second occupied police car as it attempted to drive around it.
The vehicle then went off the road further up the hill and into the mud where it became stuck.
Officers approached the man, who complied in getting out of the vehicle but then resisted when being taken into custody.
After a brief use of force, the man was detained.
No major injuries were reported.
The man was transported for mental health evaluation.
Both officers were sent to the hospital for evaluation.
The investigation is ongoing to determine criminal charges.
The Irondequoit Police Department assisted in the incident.
