Man arrested on drug charges in DeKalb

DEKALB, NY — New York State Police arrested a St. Lawrence County man on multiple drug charges following a traffic stop March 19, 2026.

Dylan R. Sharpstene, 30, of Russell, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 2nd degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd degree, and Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs.

At approximately 10:39 p.m., troopers observed a vehicle traveling on U.S. Highway 11 in the town of DeKalb in violation of a Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Troopers initiated a traffic stop on County Route 17 and interviewed the driver, who was identified as Sharpstene.

During the investigation, Sharpstene exhibited signs of impairment.

Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered, which he failed.

An inventory search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of narcotics and drug paraphernalia.

Sharpstene was transported to State Police Canton, where he was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert, who determined he was impaired by drugs.

Sharpstene is currently on parole for previous drug-related offenses.

He was arraigned in the Town of Canton Court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Jail.

Vehicle and Traffic Law violations were also issued.
