Man arrested on child exploitation charges in Penobscot County

BANGOR, ME — A 19-year-old man faces multiple charges following an investigation into the sexual exploitation of minors.

Shawn Fleming of Bangor was arrested March 20 by the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division.

The investigation began Feb. 26 when the sheriff’s office received a complaint involving Fleming and a minor victim.

Investigators discovered additional victims and determined that serious child sexual exploitation offenses had occurred over several years, according to the sheriff’s office.

Fleming was charged with five counts of gross sexual assault, a Class A felony; unlawful sexual contact, a Class C felony; 10 counts of visual sexual aggression against a child, a Class C felony; and solicitation of a child to commit a prohibited act, a Class C felony.

Fleming remains at the Penobscot County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
