Man arrested on weapon charge in Cortlandville

CORTLANDVILLE, NY — A Cortland man was arrested early Friday morning after allegedly threatening someone with an imitation firearm during a physical altercation.

Chad A. McKane, 44, of Cortland, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, along with misdemeanor counts of second-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal mischief, and a violation of second-degree harassment.

Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on U.S. Route 11 at approximately 1:10 a.m. for a report of a person with a weapon.

Investigators determined McKane had engaged in a physical altercation with a victim known to him before using an imitation firearm in an unlawful manner toward the victim.

McKane also damaged the victim’s property before leaving the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officers located McKane in the area a short time later and arrested him at 1:49 a.m.

He was transported to the Public Safety Building for processing.

McKane was arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Process at 8 a.m. Friday and was remanded to the Cortland County Jail without bail.

His next court appearance is scheduled for April 1 at 11:30 a.m. in Cortlandville Town Court.
