GROTON, CT — A Windsor man faces numerous charges including weapons offenses and vehicle theft following his arrest March 17 in connection with a stolen vehicle investigation.
Taquez Scott, 22, of Windsor, was taken into custody after police located a stolen vehicle with a stolen registration plate near the Fieldside Apartment Complex.
Police responded to a report of a stolen registration plate taken from a vehicle parked near the complex.
While officers were en route, they located the stolen plate affixed to a different vehicle parked in the same area.
That vehicle was later determined to have been stolen in New London on March 15.
The vehicle was seized and transported to the Groton City Police Department for processing.
A short time later, police received a call from the victim of the stolen registration plate, who reported that it appeared a male had returned to find the stolen car missing.
Officers were provided a picture of the male and identified the person as Scott.
City of Groton Police held an active arrest warrant for Scott and were able to link him to the stolen motor vehicle.
Officers conducted a K9 track with GCPD K9 Ewing and located Scott in the apartment complex on Fieldside Drive.
He was arrested without incident and was found to be in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Scott was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of ammunition, possession of a large capacity magazine, carrying a pistol without a permit, larceny of motor vehicle and theft of a number plate.
He was also held on an active arrest warrant for an incident that occurred on Dec. 1.
The City of Groton Police Department investigated a shooting incident that occurred in the Branford Manor Apartment complex.
During the investigation, Scott was identified as the suspect.
After an extensive investigation, an arrest warrant was presented to and subsequently granted by the New London Superior Court.
Scott was charged with assault 1st degree, illegal discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm and reckless endangerment in connection with the December incident.
Two additional arrest warrants were served on Scott for violation of probation.
Scott was held on a combination of cash/surety bonds totaling $725,000.
Scott was presented to GA-10 New London for arraignment on March 18.
