LITTLETON, MA — A 19-year-old man was arrested following a pursuit that began in Lawrence and ended with a crash in Littleton on March 19.
Members of the Lawrence Police Department Gang Unit were searching for a wanted, convicted felon with active firearm-related warrants who was believed to be operating a motor vehicle within the city at approximately 6 p.m.
Officers located the suspect and conducted a motor vehicle stop.
Upon approach, the suspect fled the scene with two adult female passengers, narrowly avoiding a collision with a police cruiser.
A pursuit was initiated, with a patrol sergeant assuming command.
The authorized pursuit continued within Lawrence.
When the suspect entered Route 495, the Massachusetts State Police were notified, and multiple units, along with the Air Wing, assisted in the pursuit.
The suspect crashed while attempting to take the Route 2A exit in Littleton, where the vehicle became lodged on a road sign.
Following a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody.
Anthony Gil, of Lawrence, was charged on the outstanding firearm warrants, in addition to multiple charges related to motor vehicle violations and the pursuit.
No officers or occupants of the suspect vehicle were injured.
The following morning, specialists from the Lawrence Police Department Gang Unit, along with Massachusetts State Police K9 units, conducted a search along Route 495 in the area where the suspect was believed to have discarded a firearm during the pursuit.
Officers recovered a Glock 40 caliber handgun a few feet from the roadside, along with several rounds of ammunition and a loaded magazine located on the rumble strip.
