Juvenile shot in Schenectady

SCHENECTADY, NY — A 13-year-old boy was shot in the back on Summit Avenue and remains hospitalized in stable condition following surgery.

Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Summit Avenue at approximately 8:18 p.m. March 19, 2026, following a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located the juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound to the back.

Officers rendered first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital.

The Schenectady Police Department’s Youth Aid Bureau and Major Crimes Unit are investigating the incident.

Chief Brian J. Whipple said violence involving a child is especially heartbreaking and unacceptable.
