Driver killed in two-vehicle crash in Colonie

COLONIE, NY — A driver was killed and two others injured in a two-vehicle crash on Central Avenue near New Karner Road on Friday morning.

The Colonie Police Department received multiple 911 calls at approximately 8:30 a.m. reporting the crash.

Patrol officers arrived to find two heavily damaged vehicles and a damaged utility pole.

The driver of a white Subaru SUV was found unconscious at the scene.

Emergency services personnel performed CPR, but those efforts were unsuccessful and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the white Subaru was seriously injured and transported to Albany Medical Center.

The driver of a grey Kia SUV sustained minor injuries and was also transported to Albany Medical Center.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The identities of the deceased and injured parties have not been released pending family and next of kin notifications.

The eastbound lanes of Central Avenue west of New Karner Road were closed following the crash.

Damage to the utility pole caused a loss of power to traffic lights at Central Avenue at New Karner Road and Central Avenue at Colonie Plaza.

The roadway has since been reopened and power has been restored to both traffic lights.

National Grid crews are working in the area to repair the damaged utility pole.
