BROOKFIELD, VT — Vermont State Police arrested a motorist on suspicion of driving under the influence after responding to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 89 southbound early Wednesday morning.
Troopers were dispatched to the scene near mile marker 41.5 at approximately 3:49 a.m. on March 18, 2026, where they found a vehicle off the roadway.
The operator, Caiden Crawford-Stempel, 22, of Northfield, showed signs of impairment upon contact with police, according to authorities.
Police established probable cause and took Crawford-Stempel into custody on suspicion of DUI.
Crawford-Stempel was transported to the Berlin Barracks for processing.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Crawford-Stempel was driving a 2026 Hyundai Sonata, which sustained no damage.
The operator was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Weather conditions at the time included snow with light snow cover on the roadway.
Crawford-Stempel was released with a citation to appear in Orange County Superior Court – Criminal Division to answer to a charge of DUI, first offense.
